Objectives
To publish short fiction or a novel for young adults and to highlight my education in writing.
Education
I am a senior at Rowan University, graduating in August of 2012. For four years I have worked diligently towards a Bachelor's degree in Writing Arts and Creative Writing. Fiction classes I've taken include Creative Writing I and II, Fiction Writing, The Writer's Mind, and Writing Children's Stories. I have nonfiction credits in Journalistic Writing, Magazine Article Writing, Writing/Research/Technology, Evaluating Writing, and Writing with Style. Classes that are not strictly considered 'Writing Arts,' but have helped further my understanding of the craft, include Communication Theory and Linguistics. This summer I hope to hone my skills by taking a class called American English Grammar. I have successfully made Dean's List for several semesters of college.
Awards & Publications
"Saturday Night Special" - short fiction - spring 2011 - Published in Rowan University's literary magazine Avant
"Atop the Camel's Hump" - creative nonfiction - spring 2012 - First place winner of the Denise Gess Literary Awards for creative nonfiction
Employment History
Petsmart 1219 in Mt. Laurel, NJ
Pet Care - June 2010 to present
Part of the pleasure of owning an animal is properly caring for it. As a member of Petsmart's pet care team, it's my job to educate prospective "pet parents" on the wants and needs of fish, reptiles, birds, cats, dogs, and small mammals. Seeing a pet leave the store is more than just selling a toy or new jeans--it's my personal responsibility to oversee that any animal sold goes to a loving and able home whose denizens are well educated on the basking temperatures of bearded dragons, the proper pH level for cichlids, or even just what treats little Hazel the guinea pig might like to snack on. The relationship between humans and animals is as beautiful as it is rewarding and I strive to see every pet treated like a member of the family. Other responsibilities include feeding and watering pets, maintaining optimal temperatures, cleaning cages, learning outside of work, administering medicine to any sick creature, and customer service.
I have previously worked for Gamestop (5 years) and Shop Rite (6 months).
