Careers in WA Culminating Project
This research project is a collaborative effort between myself and Markirah Shaw a fellow classmate in my Careers in Writing Arts course. Since we have identical aspirations and goals for our respective writing careers, we decided to work together on this project, which explores tips and information on how to publish works of fiction. I personally was inspired to pursue a career as a novelist because I have always been an avid reader, and staying up late every night losing myself in some magical world shaped me into the writer I am today. In the coming years I want someone to pick my book off the shelf and think, "Yeah. I want to write too."
Our research question was simple, but it yielded many pages worth of information: How do I get my fiction stories published? We began with an interview from Professor Lisa Jahn-Clough of Rowan University's Writing Arts department. She gave us useful tips on how to persevere through the writing process as well as giving advice on the fiction publishing process. Another useful source was The 2011 Writer's Market, which provided an inclusive, well-organized list of potential places to publish. The website writers.net was helpful in locating agents that specifically represent authors writing in the horror genre. Of course, there were many other sources that aided us in writing this research paper.
Overall, I feel this was more than just a school assignment. The information I collected about publishing is genuinely helpful to furthering my career as a freelance fiction writer.
